Symptoms and diagnosis of inflammation of the gums.
Initial symptoms of periodontal disease are bleeding, inflammation of the gums and bad breath (halitosis). Dentists measure the depth of the wells in the gums with a thin probe and x-rays show the amount of bone loss. A further bone loss, the more it loosens the tooth and changes position. It is common for front teeth are projected outward. Periodontitis usually does not cause pain until the teeth are becoming loose enough to move to chew or until they form an abscess (accumulation of pus).
